Pickling with a Pickling Crock

Pickling crocks can create more than just your typical cucumber pickles. Here are some other ideas of what you can pickle/ferment in pickling crocks:
  • Cucumbers
  • Sauerkraut
  • Asperagus
  • Beans
  • Bean Salad
  • Beets
  • Hot Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Relish
  • And More!
The process of pickling is the process of preserving foods through anaerobic fermentation in brine. Your brine is a solution of salt water. Then the food is stored in an acidic solution, typically vinegar, which results in its sour taste. Pickling foods is a food preservation method that has been around for over 4000 years, it has allowed us to make it through winters and spells of weather where fresh food was not readily available.

What is your favorite type of produce to pickle?
